(AFP) Anglican leader to pray with Pope on Saturday

The Archbishop of Canterbury will pray together with Pope Benedict XVI in a rare gesture of unity on Saturday despite simmering resentment over the Catholic Church’s move to recruit Anglicans.

Anglican leader Rowan Williams and the pope will celebrate vespers together in the monastery of San Gregorio al Celio near the Colosseum in Rome and a stone Celtic cross brought from Canterbury will be put up in the church.

“Canterbury will pray together with Pope Benedict XVI in a rare gesture of unity….” Unity of purpose? Unity of proximity? Unity of what? Noting occurrence of an empty symbol? What does the sentence mean? Seriously. Not snarking.

… then the Pope will receive Rowan into the Church . 🙂

Check out the small picture to the right of the article. Is the pope wearing a white suit? LOL, it looks like it. Oddly, the ABC looks more “Roman” in that pic than the pope does.

Wonder why the Vatican PR machine is at work? Rowan had best be on guard, lol.

Thank you, 3. Teatime2, for pointing out photo –
His Holiness in an ice-cream suit.
His All Holiness in black exo-riassa.
The Rt Hon & Most Rev Rowan resplendent in magenta(?).

Wonder if HH is trying to make a point about the non-liturgicalness of the [ecumenical] event.

    4. Are you suggesting the event from last year when that picture was taken?

Neither his All Holiness nor His Grace is dressed in liturgical garb, either. Everyone is in street clothes. (I suspect that His Holiness is wearing a white jacket over a cassock.)
